Who is Ryan?!

I'm Ryan, a lead mobile engineer and software consultant based in Aldermaston, out in the countryside of the UK. I've worked in engineering for 10+ years, helping product teams deliver, recover and plan for what comes next.

Engineering, product and practical leadership

I'm an experienced software contractor, with a long-term specialism in mobile technologies - mainly React Native, Native iOS and Native Android. I've been writing software for phones since I was in school, starting off by building mobile games for studios in the United States and Norway, before moving over to building apps for companies. I've been focusing on contract projects since 2019, and I've been fortunate to work with many interesting and exciting clients who make a real impact in the world. My contracts typically involve projects that make a positive impact on the world or society - projects like that are a great reason to get out of bed each day!

What type of projects am I interested in?

I love working on projects that make a positive improvement to the world - some examples might be working on a Greentech project to help the environment, working in Fintech to help people improve their financial literacy and help reach their financial goals, or working in energy to encourage people to consider how they can reduce their impact on the world. I am not interested in working on projects in gambling, sports betting, or crypto currency projects.

What companies do you also run?

Outside of my contract work, I also run Peslo Studios - a product development agency that makes apps and software platforms for small/medium/large businesses worldwide, and I'm a co-founder of VIKIN Event Apps - an outdoor event app startup that makes world-class apps for world-renowned outdoor events across the UK, EU and Australia.

Outside of engineering

When the laptop goes away, I don't stay inside for long! You'll find me traveling around the world (Europe is my second home, and ask me about my Australia trip!) hiking through mountains and eating good food; hiking through the UK countryside (got any good recommendations? let me know); running around Berkshire (I recommend the couch to 5k program if you're starting out!); and kayaking around the local rivers / lakes (and ideally not falling in).
